History

Greetings and welcome in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Today is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

  • The (Wellspring Congregational UCC) First Samoan Congregational Christian Church of Santa Rosa had its humble beginnings on Palm Sunday March 24, 1991.
  • Rev. Elder Anoa'i Amituana'i appointed Lay Preacher Tito & Situa Mana'omia of the CCCAS in San Francisco to commute on Sunday's to lead the Worship Service for the newly formed Wellspring Congregation, and they faithfully did for 10 months before the new Pastor Mataia'au & Tasi Apineru were installed. Rev. Elder Anoa'i Amituana'i blessed and installed the first Deacons of the Church Eteuati Talafili, Atuatasi Wongking, Maneta Sola, Pouma'a Vavao, Siaosi Vaisau. Rev. Letofia Paopao of the Toe Fuataina CCCAS in Daly City performed the first Baptism of the Wellspring Church and lead the Sacrament of Communion Service probably a couple of times.
  • The Church used the home of Pa'i Yan Lan for Church gatherings, where meetings and Church activies were held from 1991-1998. The Church Services were held at first from 1991-1992 at the Knox Presbyterian Church on 1650 W. Third St. We then moved to the First Congregational UCC on 2000 Humbolt St. from 1992-2011. For 19 years our brothers and sisters at the First Congregational welcomed us and allowed us to use their Sanctuary and Hall for our Services and Church functions. Finally on March 6, 2011 following the dedication of the Wellspring Church Multi-Purpose Hall Building (3/5/11), we held our first Worship Service at our home at 1255 Fulton Rd.
  • On January 23, 1992 Rev. Mataia'au and Tasi Apineru were installed as Faifeau and Faletua and served as Pastor of the Wellspring Congregation until April of 2005. Rev. Mataiaau and Tasi Apineru were ordainded by the Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa during its General Assembly meeting in July of 1996 at Kanana Fou. Currently they have resigned as Chaplain at the LBJ Hospital in American Samoa.and now reside in Anchorage Alaska,
  • The late Rev. Elder Farao & Salani Wendt became Lay Preacher of the Wellspring Congregation in 1992 until they were called to become Pastor of the Freemont Congregation in 2004. They were later called to become Pastor at the Vaipuna o le Ola Church in Daly City in 2009. They have been elevated to the position of Rev. Elder for the Congregational Christian Chuirch of Jesus Christ Samoa in California Association (Pulega). Rev. Elder Farao Wendt passed away August 15, 2018.
  • In 1998, the Church purchased the property on 1255 Fulton Road and named it Laupama (Palm). Laupama had a house on it where the Minister and family lived. There was a garage on-site that we used as a gathering place for our meetings and practices. We broke ground for the Wellspring Church Multi-Purpose Hall Building on October 25, 2008 and dedicated our Church Hall Building on March 5, 2011.
  • Lay Pastor Maulupeivao Tusi and Aitogi Yan Lan shepherded the Congregation from April 2005 to November 2006. Maulepeivao was installed as Lay Preacher (A'oa'o Fesoasoani) by the San Francisco Association (Pulega) Congregational Christian Church American Samoa in 2003.
  • Pastor  Iakopo & the late Lakena Yan Lan have been serving the Chinese Congregational UCC San Francisco since 2008, before their calling they served the Wellspring Church as Lay Preacher. Iakopo Yan Lan is currently serving as Interim Pastor of the Chinese Cong.UCC. Sister Lakena Yan Lan passed away September 6, 2018.
  • Edward and O'omai Sunia returned from Kanana Fou Theological Seminary and served as Interim Pastor November 2006. On March 25, 2007 they were selected by the Congregation to be their Pastor and 4 months later were installed as Faifeau and Faletua. However, it wasn't until November 30, 2013 that Rev. Edward and O'omai Sunia were Ordained by the United Church of Christ as Pastor of the (Wellspring Congregational UCC) First Samoan Congregational Christian Church of Santa Rosa.
  • At our March 2015 Church Board meeting we decided to have a nickname in which our Church will be known by and that name was printed on the Church sign/board facing Fulton Rd.
